How did you write Frank when you were twelve?

basically twelve yr old me woobified him to the point where he wasn’t even necessarily recognizable as frank ? like i used canon as a jumping off point & pretty much made him a self insert from there

 frank   doesn’t   experience   love   the   same   way   most   beings   do,   but   that   doesn’t   mean   he   doesn’t   feel   it.   frank    can    &    has    loved    other    people    (    see:   rocky     ).   if   he   loves   you,    he   loves   you   entirely,    with   the   depth   of   his   being     ;     he'll   make   you   feel   like   you’re   the   only   one   for   him,    that   it’s   going   to   last   forever.    but   in   reality,   it   might   only   last   for   half   an   hour.    his   emotions   are   subject   to   constant   swings,    but   even   more   so   in   regards   to   love.    however,   it’s   so   fickle   that   i   wouldn’t   even   really   call   what   he’d   feel   love     –––––     it’s    more   like   passing   obsessions.

i’m gonna give you a few different answers to this question because i really don’t think you can put the idea of frank into a box.

  • firstly, the most literal and canon take on this is: no, he is not genderfluid because of the lyrics within his introductory song, in which he claims to be a transvestite. while this is still a valid identity that exists today and certainly can apply itself to frank, the script for the sequel, revenge of the old queen, disproves this by writing transvestites as the human equivalent race that lives on transexual. it might not be in the best taste, but there it is.
  • there’s also the idea that o’brien wrote rocky horror as an expression of himself. so, in that sense, frank could very well be genderfluid/nb because that’s how richard sees himself: 70% male and 30% female. (which, i would argue, is a pretty good representation of frank himself)
  • personally, i think the labels that he would choose in modern times would be, yes, somewhere along the lines of genderfluid/demimale because he does identify primarily as male, but at the same time has more feminine days (he wouldn’t actually use those terms; he really doesn’t see the point of labelling). but even then, he is literally an alien who doesn’t really fit into any of our earthly labels. genderfluid/demimale are just the closest.
  • lastly, i know that rocky horror is a pretty important part of a lot of lgbt+ members’ lives because of its early representation in sexualities and gender identities. due to this, i think it’s pretty important that frank is whatever you want him to be. while he isn’t the most positive rep out there, i find it pretty cool that the vagueness of the subject allows for your own interpretation, or even your own identity expression, like o’brien when he wrote it.
